Francesca Baker | Proud non nicher – PR, marketing and copywriting
And So She Thinks
My skillset and experience are varied – covering copywriting, journalism, marketing, emails, social media, and PR – but always centred around communication and creating a connection. Audiences don’t think in siloes – so neither do I.
Ultimately, I work with messages – and creating the right messages to resonate with an audience. The fact I work across sectors and disciplines also means I think creatively and laterally and am adept at finding new angles and story ideas.
I’ve been working in marketing for over sixteen years and have been a full-time freelance communications consultant for the last eight. Working across sectors gives me a broader creative lens, allowing me to bring ideas, formats and ways of thinking into arts marketing that might not emerge from a single sector view. I spent 10 years working in data insight and market research so am a geek for customer insight. I’m particularly interested in helping cultural organisations connect with people in ways that feel relevant, confident and human – we’re all people after all.
Some of my roles have included; Copywriter and Communications Manager for the National Lottery on their 25th Birthday campaign, working with Four Communications on Coventry City of Culture, being Co-Head of Communications for Heritage Open Days by The National Trust, Head of Communications & Marketing at Spread the Word, Marketing and Press for Margate Bookie, Interim Marketing Manager for the British Museum and Russell Cotes Art Gallery, along with many more.
I’m an NCTJ trained journalist, so know how to tell a good story that resonates with the reader, from idea through to research and publication. I’m familiar with analytics and SEO/GEO and know how to use them in the full marketing mix, so you get an integrated campaign that works.
