A New Adventure

Bursaries help make our events more affordable for individuals and organisations who might not otherwise be able to get involved. 

Thanks to support from organisations across the arts and cultural sector there are 31 bursaries available that cover the full cost of an AMA Conference 2022 delegate place.

You can apply for the bursaries via simple online forms, which can be found using the buttons below.


AMA Bursaries

AMA logo

AMA will provide 5 bursaries that cover the full cost of an AMA Conference delegate place, plus travel and accommodation.

To apply for an AMA bursary, you must meet one or more of the following criteria:   

  • You are Freelance, earning under £25k per annum
  • You are in-between jobs
  • You are aged 18 — 24 and want to build a career in the cultural sector

We particularly encourage applications from those based in Scotland or Northern Ireland, OR who identify as having a disability OR neurodivergent; OR come from an ethnically and/or culturally under-represented background.

AMAculturehive Bursaries

AMAculturehive will provide 10 bursaries to individuals working for an NPO and who have not attended AMA Conference before.

We particularly encourage applications from those in leadership roles, OR who identify as having a disability OR neurodivergent; OR come from an ethnically and/or culturally under-represented background.

Arts Council of Wales Bursaries

Arts Council of Wales will provide 4 bursaries that are available to both AMA Members and non-members working for organisations across the cultural sector.    

All applicants must be working in Wales and meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • You work for a small organisation — small organisations are classed as having less than 10 employees and/or a turnover of less than £350k in 2019/20 (prior to the effects of the pandemic)
  • You are in the first 5 years of your marketing career
  • You are working at Assistant or Officer level

house will provide 3 bursaries to freelancers and people working for small organisations across the cultural sector who are part of the house network. These bursaries cover the full cost of a delegate place, plus accommodation costs.

These bursaries are available to both AMA members and non-members who meet the following criteria:

We particularly welcome applications from diverse-led organisations, or from D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent individuals, and those with ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.

Museum Development East Midlands Bursaries

Museum Development East Midlands are providing 3 bursaries to individuals who work or volunteer at an Accredited Museum in the East Midlands.

Your museum must have submitted their Organisational Health Check at the time of application, and must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Individual from a culturally and/or ethnically diverse background (including, but not limited to the 9 protected characteristics identified by the Equality Act 2010: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation)
  • Individual working in a geographical area with high levels of deprivation (by this we mean due to rural isolation or low soci-economic communities for example)
  • Individual representing a diverse-led organisation (by this we mean an organisation which is led by and supports people from specific protected characteristic groups)

Museum Development North West Bursaries

Museum Development North West are providing 2 bursaries to people working in Accredited museums, or those officially working towards Accreditation in the North West.

Please note: Those working in NPOs or National Museums are not eligible to apply.

Museum Development Yorkshire Bursaries

Museum Development Yorkshire are providing 1 bursary to an individual working or volunteering in museums that are:

  • In Yorkshire and the Humber
  • Accredited with Arts Council England*

Please note: This bursary is not available to people working or volunteering in museums that are:

  • Funded by Arts Council England as a NPO
  • A National Museum (non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport)

*Excludes museums that are recognised by Arts Council England as ‘working towards Accreditation’


Substrakt Bursaries

Substrakt will provide 3 bursaries that are available to freelancers and those working for organisations across the cultural sector in the UK. 

You can apply for a Substrakt bursary if you meet one or more of the following criteria:   

  • You identify as a woman or non-binary
  • You are D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent
  • You are from an ethnically diverse background
  • You work in/for an organisation committed to diversifying the arts sector
