AMA CEO Cath Hume was the keynote speaker at ‘Being Brave in a New World’, the 2019 Regional Heritage Conference & Awards from Museum Development East Midlands. The event was attended by museums, historic houses and heritage sites including zoos from across the region.
Cath’s keynote focused on the need to be “cause led and visitor focused”. Delegates heard from her how a cause statement should inspire passion for the museum’s cause and offer staff a framework for action.
Delegates also had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions with Cath, to think about how to be 21st Century Visitor Attractions, where she offered further advice on creating positive visitor experiences.
A key theme emerging from conversations were the importance of critical friends, and “friction points” within both the visitor experience and the organisation delivering that experience.
“Events like this are so important,” said Cath, “Bringing together people who are facing similar challenges, where they can share perspectives as well as take time out from the day job to reflect on what they hear, has so many benefits. It’s really important to make time for those conversations, and I’m honoured to have been invited to speak.”
