Melanie Sharpe
Stagetext

Melanie Sharpe is Chief Executive of Stagetext, a national charity which provides captions and live subtitles in theatres and cultural venues across the UK, giving deaf, deafened and hard of hearing audiences equal access to the arts.

She has vast experience of working in the UK’s thriving arts industry, specialising in a number of senior management roles at a wide range of venues including: General Manager at Theatre Peckham, Head of Education at Ovalhouse, Director of Jacksons Lane and Team Leader for Art of Regeneration (a partnership between The Albany and the Royal National Theatre). She has also gained expertise in freelance arts consultancy over the past 8 years, directing a variety of companies in change management and how to develop and sustain Boards of skilled Trustees.

Melanie is a trained actor and graduated from London’s acclaimed Rose Bruford College in 1983, with a diploma in Community Theatre and Theatre Education. Subsequently, she had a successful career working as an actor and director for companies including: Belgrade Theatre Coventry and Theatre Royal Stratford East. The training developed and instilled a strong belief in her that every person is entitled to equal arts access, whether they are young, old, deaf, disabled or disenfranchised through class, gender or race.

Melanie will be speaking in the following AMA conference 2017 session:
