GOVERNMENT’S PRIORITIES FOR ARTS AND CULTURE DEBATED AT CONFERENCE

Arts professionals from across the UK and as far away as New Zealand will be travelling to Wales Millennium Centre Cardiff on 19th – 21st July to take part in Five Portions a Day, a conference exploring how to achieve a balanced diet to strengthen marketing and management practice in the cultural sector. Organised by the Arts Marketing Association the conference has become one of the sectors’ most significant annual events. For more information call 01223 578078 or go to www.a-m-a.co.uk/conference2006

With keynote speakers from a range of industries and specialities, including Channel 4 and Tate and Chelsea Football Club, Five Portions a Day provides a multilayered event that will invigorate delegates regardless of job
title. Its five main themes also tie in with national priorities for the
arts as set out by the Department for Culture Media and Sport.
For example the stream entitled

Tasting is Believing will tackle the issue of social inclusion and broadening
access to the arts, whilst the stream Pick your Own will allow delegates to unpick the relationship between the Olympics and the arts and explore how to maximise the benefits of a shared partnership with tourism.

One of the government’s key aims is to increase the skills capacity of those in the creative industries - as outlined in Tony Blair’s letter to Tessa Jowell on her reappointment as Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport – and through this conference and its ongoing programme of professional development the Arts Marketing Association is already a leading practitioner in the field.

ARTS MARKETING ASSOCIATION CAUGHT UP IN FOOTBALL FEVER –

Just when you thought it was all over! Not long after the flags are gone from the cars and the World Cup wall planner comes down, it will be the arts that prolong football fever into the next season. Taking place just a long goal kick away from the Millennium Stadium at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff from 19th to 21st July, this year’s Arts Marketing Association (AMA) conference will include speakers from Chelsea Football Club.

In a 4-4-2 formation alongside experienced arts professionals and other speakers from outside the arts, Elaine Clark, head of information technology and Vicky Mudge, data manager at Chelsea Football Club and Kathryn Baldwin, internal sales and product specialist from Tickets.com will explore the marketing and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) goals of Chelsea Football Club.

Always keen to gain new perspectives and learn from speakers from outside of the arts, professionals from the cultural industries will find out why the famous football club has recently changed its ticketing and marketing system, the challenges they faced in doing so, and the improvements they have made in managing their customer information and relationships as a result.

Five Portions a Day – a balanced diet for a vibrant cultural sector, will take place at the Wales
Millennium Centre, Cardiff from 19th to 21st July 2006 www.a-m-a.co.uk/conference06.asp
